The EAV line 808 Pompei–Vesuvio, in force from 1 October 2026 and running every day, leaves the terminus at Pompei Piazza Anfiteatro at 8:30, 9:50, 10:45, 11:30, 12:00, 13:00, 13:30, 14:00 and 14:30. The stop at Pompei Villa dei Misteri is 5 minutes after the departure from the terminus, Porta Marina Inferiore 8 minutes, Torre del Greco Via De Nicola 25 minutes, Ercolano Osservatorio 35 minutes and the chairlift stop at 750 m 45 minutes. The bus reaches the terminus Ercolano–Vesuvio q. 1000 after 55 minutes, at 9:25, 10:45, 11:40, 12:25, 12:55, 13:55, 14:25, 14:55 and 15:25.
Buses back leave the 1,000 m terminus at 9:35, 11:00, 12:00, 12:40, 13:10, 14:00, 14:50, 15:30 and 16:50 and reach Piazza Anfiteatro at 10:30, 11:55, 12:55, 13:35, 14:05, 14:55, 15:45, 16:25 and 17:45. In January, February, November and December access closes at 15:00, so the last useful bus up is the one leaving Pompeii at 14:00.
We could not confirm the fare from an EAV source. Trenitalia's “Vesuvio Link” adds a bus supplement of 2.40 € per trip to the rail fare, with departure from Pompei FS only, and the bus leaves Piazza Anfiteatro, about 10 minutes on foot from that station.
The Park says to take a Circumvesuviana train from Napoli Centrale–Piazza Garibaldi towards Sorrento or Poggiomarino–Via Pompei to Ercolano Scavi, from where taxis or private shuttles leave for Vesuvius. The Vesuvio Express is a private cooperative, not the Park. Its website says it runs every day every 40 minutes from 9:30, but it carries no date and other pages show outdated visiting hours, so we could not confirm times and prices for 2026.
We also could not confirm whether the time slot is included in its combined ticket. Tiqets sells the transport on its own and a combined entry and transport ticket: see the cards above.
Take the Circumvesuviana from Napoli Garibaldi to Ercolano Scavi or to Pompei Scavi – Villa dei Misteri, then a taxi, shuttle or bus. We did not find a direct EAV connection between Naples and Vesuvius.
The Park's directions: take the A3 Napoli–Salerno motorway and leave at Torre del Greco, take the second exit of the roundabout following “Vesuvio”, then Via Enrico De Nicola and Via Vesuvio. At the end take the first exit of the roundabout towards Contrada Osservatorio and the SP144 to the car park at 800 m, which the Park puts at 15 minutes and 7.3 km. Its GPS coordinates for the 800 m car park are 40.828248, 14.414986.
From the car park to the 1,000 m square it is about 30 minutes on foot (1.8 km) along the SP144, or you can take the Ercolano municipal shuttle at 1.00 € a trip (about 4 minutes; we could not confirm the timetable). The final stretch is closed to all vehicles except line buses, NCC cars, taxis, motorcycles and delivery vehicles (07:00 to 09:00 and 13:00 to 16:00).
Paid parking is run by the municipality of Ercolano at parkingsuvio.it, for a maximum of 4 hours: 7 € for cars and 21 € for motorhomes in the area between the 800 m junction and the chairlift square. The Park advises buying the parking only after you have the Gran Cono ticket.
The square is managed by the Park, and parking is not allowed. The Park's page says there are temporarily no public toilets. The regulation mentions facilities at the square and shops along the path run by concessionaires; we could not confirm what they sell.
